Endowment

For more than 60 years, Flight Safety Foundation has contributed significantly to the improvement of aviation safety. Yet there is much more to do, continuing the Foundation’s tradition of quality research, auditing, education, advocacy and publishing. Because effective action requires long-term planning and a secure financial base, the Foundation has created an Endowment Fund. You can help with a gift to the Flight Safety Foundation Endowment Fund. Your investment today is an investment in the future of aviation safety.

Ways to support Flight Safety Foundation Endowment Fund with a planned gift

Planned gifts offer many advantages to donors, among them: increasing current income to yourself and/or your spouse or family, reducing or eliminating capital gains and estate taxes, and affording in many cases a significant income tax deduction.

Outright Gifts

A gift of cash, securities or mutual funds is a simple and effective way of expressing your commitment to the future of aviation safety.

Bequest

Through a bequest, you may donate cash, securities or real estate by designating Flight Safety Foundation in your last will and testament. In most cases, your estate will receive a charitable estate tax deduction at death, when the gift goes to charity.

Charitable Remainder Trust

In a charitable remainder trust you and/or your spouse transfer assets to a trust which pays you income for life or a term of years. When your right to receive income ends, the Flight Safety Foundation receives the trust assets. You receive a current income tax deduction upon creation of the trust even though the Foundation receives a deferred gift. You will obtain a deduction based upon the gift’s current fair market value and avoid payment of any capital gains tax upon transfer of the assets.

Charitable Lead Trust

Often considered the “opposite” of a charitable remainder trust, a charitable lead trust allows you to transfer assets to a trust that pays Flight Safety Foundation an income for your life or specified number of years. At the expiration of the lead trust, the remaining assets are transferred to your designated beneficiaries. Although there is no income tax deduction when the trust is created, your gift and estate taxes are reduced and any appreciation in the trust principal during the term of the trust passes to the beneficiaries free of estate and gift taxes.

Charitable Gift Annuity

With a gift of cash or marketable securities, you may purchase a charitable gift annuity that can provide a designated beneficiary with annual guaranteed lifetime income payments. Once your income needs are met, the initial gift will benefit Flight Safety Foundation. The amount of guaranteed lifetime payments depends on the age of the beneficiary in the year of the donation and the value of the gift.

Life Insurance Policy and Beneficiary Designations

Life insurance makes it possible for virtually everyone to make a meaningful gift to Flight Safety Foundation. Policies that were never used for their original purpose can make excellent gifts. Tax benefits depend on many factors, including whether the policy is fully paid. Please contact your attorney or tax advisor for more information.
