Aviation Week & Space Technology Distinguished Service Award

Joe Chase Award

Presented since 1973, this award is given for outstanding contributions to the aviation maintenance profession in recognition of the profession’s importance in aircraft safety and reliability. The award is named for Joseph M. Chase, a maintenance technician who became the first director of what was then the Foundation’s maintenance and equipment division and, in 1953, the first editor of the FSF Aviation Mechanics Bulletin. He remained in the job until his retirement in 1972. The award, which includes a handsome, wood-framed, hand-lettered citation, is administered by the Foundation.

The Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA) sponsors the annual award and selects the recipient; the award is presented at the PAMA annual meeting.
