Cover of AeroSafety WorldNigeria’s Air Safety Upgrade

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has been established as an independent safety regulator, insulated against political interference. An Accident Investigation Bureau now acts as an autonomous agency complying with ICAO Annex 13. Ratification of the Cape Town Convention has given investors confidence in Nigerian airlines, so that carriers can replace aging fleets with new airplanes and types. ATC coverage for all the country’s airspace will soon be available, and NCAA is gearing up for flight with required navigation performance and satellite navigation aids. Much work remains, especially in airport improvement, but Nigeria’s turnaround is under way. Find that story and much more in the May AeroSafety World. Click and you’re there!
