Statement on Anniversary of Linate Tragedy

Alexandria, VA, October 8, 2011 — The Flight Safety Foundation released the following statement today to mark the 10 year anniversary of the tragedy of Scandinavian Airlines Flight 686 at Linate Airport in Milan, Italy.
“Ten years ago today, 114 people lost their lives when a Scandinavian Airlines MD-87 collided with a Cessna Citation CJ2 during take-off. For the family and friends of these victims, the pain will never go away, but the entire aviation safety community is grateful for their strength. The families of these victims are represented by the October 8 Foundation, based in Milan. Over the past 10 years, the October 8 Foundation has committed itself to the prevention of such aviation tragedies and we are honored to work with them on safety issues so that other families never have to feel the same grief. We take a moment today to remember all those who lost their lives, and acknowledge the grace and dignity of those they left behind”
