Foundation Announces Staff Changes in Australia Office

Alexandria, VA, July 1, 2011 — The Flight Safety Foundation announced today the departure of Paul Fox, Director of the Foundation’s regional office in Melbourne, Australia.
Mr. Fox helped establish the Foundation’s Australian office, and was instrumental in developing the Basic Aviation Risk Standard (BARS) audit program to make flying safer for mining employees around the world. The BARS program was developed in consultation with major multinational mining companies and has been rapidly adopted across the resources and allied sectors to improve safety in their global aviation operations.
“The Flight Safety Foundation is very grateful for the vision and passion that Paul brought to the table to develop and launch the BARS program, while also running the operations of the Australia office,” stated William R. Voss, president and CEO of FSF. “We’re confident that the groundwork he laid for BARS will ensure that it continues to expand its reach in improving aviation safety standards around the world. We wish him the best in the future.”
Under the BARS program, more than 30 safety audits of aircraft operators have been conducted in nine countries: Australia, Canada, Gabon, Kenya, Mali, Noumea, Papua New Guinea, South Africa and Zambia.
“With the successful launch of BARS and the strong roots we’ve developed, it’s a good time to hand over the reins and move on to new opportunities,” Mr. Fox stated, “The Flight Safety Foundation is a leader in worldwide aviation safety and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to help advance safety in this important sector internationally. BARS is in safe hands with Greg Marshall as Program Director. I have no doubt this important program will continue to grow and flourish under Greg’s leadership.”
