This year, Flight Safety Foundation is celebrating its 70th anniversary, so we have spent a lot of time looking back at the industry’s safety accomplishments since 1947. Several generations of aviation safety professionals have done a lot of great work since then, and their efforts are reflected in the industry’s extraordinary safety record.
But we don’t want to lose sight of the fact that many people continue to do great work within the sphere of safety, and most of them go about their tasks quietly and often without recognition.
So as the Foundation marks its first 70 years, we would like to recognize the efforts of today’s safety professionals and their contributions to our excellent safety record. To do this, we would like to initiate two programs.
First, we would like to offer organizations the opportunity to profile their leaders in safety. This can be the organization’s safety manager or someone from the safety department who has been especially dedicated to his or her task. Submissions may be made by organizations on a monthly basis, and our team will select one for publication in each issue of AeroSafety World.
Secondly, we are establishing an award program to recognize individuals who have made positive contributions to safety. We are asking organizations to nominate individuals who have either developed a device that is used within the organization to overcome a safety hazard, or whose actions prevented an incident or accident. These nominations can be made by anyone in your organization. Our team will select one individual each month to be featured in ASW. And from those selected over the course of a year, we will determine an overall winner whose efforts will be recognized at our annual International Air Safety Summit.
Submissions for both company safety personnel profiles and for the safety award should include an abstract of at least 500 words and a high-resolution photograph of the individual. Additional relevant photographs of a safety hazard or of the workplace may also be submitted for consideration for inclusion with the article.
Abstracts should be submitted by the 15th day of the month for possible inclusion in the following month’s magazine. Submissions should be made by email to <technical@flightsafety.org>. If you have any questions, please direct them to the same email.
