Washington, DC –The Flight Safety Foundation and The MITRE Corporation announced today at the International Aviation Safety Symposium that they have formed a new collaboration to assist regulators, air navigation service providers, and operators from around the world with analytically-sound solutions that address emerging worldwide safety issues. Through collaborative safety and data analysis and sharing, the two groups will address pressing safety issues at local and regional levels across the globe.
There is a global need and an economic imperative for aviation data sharing initiatives. Given the complexity of today’s global air navigation system, the analysis of diverse types of data is essential to accurately correlate multiple attributes that, in combination, have the potential to create systemic vulnerabilities that elevate safety risks. This joint collaboration will publicize the benefits of these programs and share critical know-how in setting up such programs.
“This is one more opportunity for collaboration on data collection, analysis and sharing,” stated Kevin L. Hiatt, FSF President and CEO. “We have regions of the world that have not been exposed to this type of process. With FSF’s international reach and MITRE’s data analysis expertise, we’ll have a tool that can be used to reduce the risk of accidents and incidents.”
The Flight Safety Foundation and MITRE are not-for-profit organizations that have worked on a variety of long-term aviation challenges of considerable complexity. This new collaboration will leverage complementary qualities of each organization: Flight Safety Foundation’s worldwide reach and reputation for promoting safety, and MITRE’s deep analytical capabilities and expertise in aviation safety analytics.
