Mexico’s civil aviation authority no longer meets safety standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), according to an evaluation by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which has downgraded Mexico’s safety rating to Category 2 – a move that prohibits Mexican air carriers from establishing new service to U.S. airports.
