As promised, the November 2016 issue of AeroSafety World is our first digital-only issue. With it, we hope to reach more people, more quickly, with more flexibility. The digital format enables us to update articles, to be more current with our Safety Briefs, and to more easily link to additional resources, both internal and external. For us to be as effective as possible, we need your help.
If you are reading this message, you likely are a member of the Foundation or are employed by a company that is a member. Either way, we appreciate your support. If your company is a member of the Foundation, then your colleagues also are entitled to access ASW, and the rest of our members-only content, on our new website. So, please spread the word. Point your colleagues to <flightsafety.org> and urge them to set up their own user names and passwords. If your company is supporting the Foundation through membership, you might as well take advantage of the benefits.
When you visit the website, make sure to check out the search engine. Click on the magnifying glass, type in a search term, and then hit enter or click on the magnifying glass again. When the results appear, note the information on the right-hand side of the page. Our search engine searches not only the Foundation website but also Aviation Safety Network and SKYbrary. Checking the appropriate box lets you filter the results to just one of those three sources for easier scanning.
One of the beauties of the digital world is that it is interactive. Explore the Members’ Center on the website and you will find an area set up for dialogue with and between members. I encourage you to keep in touch with us. Let me know if you have any ideas for articles or areas of coverage. Also, we get some of our best articles from our member companies. We don’t want 2,500-word marketing pieces, but if you or someone in your company is doing interesting, safety-related research, we’d love to hear about it.
In early 2017, we plan to roll out an ASW mobile app that will enable you to access our content from anywhere at any time once it has been downloaded to your device. Access to ASW on the app will be limited to members, so that is further incentive to spread the word and get your colleagues set up with user names and passwords.
