Dhaka, Bangladesh, December 6, 2007 — More than 85 aviation industry representatives attended the most recent workshop to provide training designed to prevent the most common type of fatal aviation accident. The Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) team of volunteer experts presented the FSF Approach and Landing Accident Reduction (ALAR) Tool Kit and discussed its use with the attendees. This was the 26th ALAR Tool Kit workshop that the Foundation has conducted worldwide.
The conference was hosted by Biman Bangladesh Airlines and sponsored by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Bangladesh. The Chairman of the CAA Bangladesh, Air Commander Sakeb Ibal Khan Majlis, and the CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Dr. M.A. Momen, opened the meeting with welcoming remarks. COSCAP-South Asia (Cooperative Development of Operational Safety and Continuing Airworthiness) and the CAA Bangladesh organized the meeting.
Jim Burin of Flight Safety Foundation, Dave Carbaugh of Boeing and John Long of the Air Line Pilots Association, International presented the material in the ALAR Tool Kit. The attendees can in turn educate others in its use.
The tool kit consolidates the data, products, findings, conclusions and recommendations of 10 years of work by 300 international aviation safety experts whose mission was to eradicate one of the leading causes of fatal aviation accidents. The workshops bring this vital information to the people who can put it to use — operators, pilots, regulators, air traffic management personnel, airport officials and other aviation professionals.
Flight Safety Foundation will continue to present ALAR Tool Kit workshops in 2008. Organizations interested in sponsoring a workshop should contact Jim Burin at +1 703.739.6700, ext. 106.
