ALEXANDRIA, Virginia — Flight Safety Foundation expresses its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims in the fatal crash involving Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752, which crashed shortly after takeoff from Tehran International Airport on Wednesday morning local time. The flight, a scheduled service bound for Kiev, was operated with a Boeing 737-800 aircraft. All passengers and crewmembers died in the crash.
The Foundation is calling for a thorough, objective and transparent investigation to determine the cause or causes of this terrible tragedy. “It’s critical that diplomatic and military tensions not impede a thorough, independent accident investigation,” said Dr. Hassan Shahidi, president and CEO of the Foundation. “Innocent lives have been lost in the crash of a widely operated aircraft type that has had an excellent safety record. It is imperative that a thorough investigation is conducted leveraging experienced professionals and capabilities.”
The Foundation urges the civil aviation authorities and investigative agencies involved to cooperate and follow long-established accident investigation standards and recommended practices. It is also important that the aviation community stand ready to provide assistance as needed and requested.
