CFIT/ALAR Action Group Leads Two-day Seminar
Alexandria, VA, August 21, 2006 — Continuing its mission of providing aviation safety outreach across a wide front, the Flight Safety Foundation recently held its 23rd Approach and Landing Accident Reduction (ALAR) workshop in Caracas, Venezuela. Speakers included Jim Burin of the Flight Safety Foundation, Andres Fabre of Volaris Airlines, Carlos Limon of Mexicana Airlines/International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations, and Gary Hudson of Boeing, all members of the Foundation’s CFIT/ALAR Action Group.
The workshops provide recommendations on the use of the FSF ALAR Tool Kit, a user-friendly product containing PowerPoint briefings, videos, checklists, and reference material. The tool kit is the culmination of nine years of work by over 300 international aviation safety specialists.
“This was our first workshop in South America in several years, and it was well received by the over 100 attendees,” commented Burin, FSF Director of Technical Programs. “As always, our goal is to instruct the attendees on not only how to best use the ALAR Tool Kit, but also how to teach others. It was also a unique workshop in that more than half of it was conducted in Spanish.”
The workshop was organized by the Association of Latin American Airlines (ALTA) and Aeropostal, a Venezuelan airline. It was sponsored by Aeropostal and Aserca, another Venezuelan airline. The attendees included representatives from Venezuelan airlines, the Venezuelan Civil Aviation Authority and the Venezuelan Transportation Safety Board.
The next ALAR workshop is scheduled for December 6th and 7th in Tokyo. Future workshops are in the planning stage for Eastern Europe and Asia.
