An international team of regulatory specialists has issued guidance material to help harmonize regulations governing the operation of drones (also known by a number of other terms, including remotely piloted aircraft systems [RPAS] and unmanned aircraft systems).
The guidance material was released Tuesday (April 11) by the Joint Authorities for Rulemaking on Unmanned Systems (JARUS), made up of regulatory experts from 50 countries on six continents, regional aviation safety organizations, the European Aviation Safety Agency and Eurocontrol.
The new guidance material is designed to aid in implementation of a JARUS recommendation issued in October 2015 on flight crew licensing (FCL).
“The JARUS-FCL recommendation and its GM [guidance material] may be used by the competent authorities to develop provisions regarding licensing and competencies in RPAS activities, in relation to the concept of operations in their respective states or regions,” JARUS said.
