Sumwalt, Kern Highlight BASS 2023 Agenda

Annual event slated for May 9–10 in New Orleans

by FSF Communications Staff | April 12, 2023

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia — Dr. Tony Kern, a renowned expert on human performance in aviation, will be the Day One keynote speaker at Flight Safety Foundation’s 68th Business Aviation Safety Summit (BASS) in New Orleans. BASS 2023 is scheduled for May 9–10 at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel.

Kern, who is the chief executive officer and chief learning officer of Convergent Performance, is a retired U.S. Air Force officer who focused much of his career on helping individuals and organizations to reduce error, improve cultures, mitigate losses and optimize performance. He has been published widely and been the recipient of numerous awards and other accolades, including the FSF-Airbus Human Factors in Aviation Safety Award.

Also scheduled to speak during BASS 2023 is Robert Sumwalt executive director of the Boeing Center for Aviation & Aerospace Safety at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and former U.S. National Transportation Safety Board. Sumwalt will deliver remarks on safety culture and safety leadership, followed by a fireside chat with Foundation President and CEO Dr. Hassan Shahidi.

“We have a compelling lineup of speakers for BASS 2023,” said Shahidi. “Each one brings a unique viewpoint on how, working together, the industry can continue to drive safety improvements.”

For more information on BASS 2023 and to register, please follow this link to the BASS 2023 webpage. Early bird registration ends on April 15 and the last day to reserve a hotel room at the conference rate is April 17.
