ALEXANDRIA, Virginia — Flight Safety Foundation will recognize outstanding achievement in aviation innovation and safety leadership with two new awards to be presented during the 75th annual International Air Safety Summit (IASS) in November in Atlanta. Both awards are named after founders of the Foundation.
The David Morrison Innovation Award recognizes an individual, a team or an organization for notable technological innovation or process transformation in civil aviation. As part of the selection process, the Foundation would like to understand how the need was identified, what went into designing and developing the innovation or process change, and how collaboration played a role.
The Jerome F. Lederer Safety Leadership Medal recognizes an individual or team for making a significant contribution to the advancement of civil aviation safety through demonstrated organizational or industry leadership and by developing or advancing programs that will have a lasting impact on aviation. Selection criteria include the nominee’s role as a strong champion of safety information sharing and an advocate of developing and promoting safety standards, and broad recognition of the nominee as a safety leader.
“Individuals, teams and organizations across the industry and government work tirelessly every day to advance the cause of aviation safety,” said Foundation President and CEO Dr. Hassan Shahidi. “It is important to recognize their achievements and demonstrate to future industry leaders what is possible.”
Nominations for both awards are now open and will be accepted until Sept. 15, 2022. More information on the awards and how to submit nominations is available on the Foundation website. The awards will be presented on Monday, Nov. 7, 2022, at an awards dinner on the first day of IASS 2022. More information on the event can be found on the IASS 2022 page on the Foundation website.
