New Effort to Boost Runway Safety

A new system designed to prevent runway incursions by improving air traffic controllers’ situational awareness is scheduled to be implemented by mid-year at four U.S. airports, including Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas, the scene of a 2023 runway incursion in which two airliners narrowly avoided a collision.
