Jennifer Homendy, a former U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee staff member, has been sworn in as a member of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), bringing the five-member board to full strength for the first time in more than four years.
Homendy, who was sworn in Monday, previously was the Democratic staff director of the Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. In that position, she led committee oversight investigations of a pipeline spill in Marshall, Michigan, and of the Department of Transportation (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, as well as a review of DOT’s drug and alcohol testing program.
She previously held positions with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the Transportation Trades Department of the AFL-CIO, the American Iron and Steel Institute and the National Federation of Independent Business.
The NTSB operated with four members from April 2014 to December 2017 and with three members from January until Aug. 7, when Bruce Landsberg was sworn in as a board member and its vice chairman.
Homendy’s term on the board expires Dec. 31, 2019. She was nominated to fill the unexpired term of former member Mark R. Rosekind.
